The historic India-Brazil football friendly drew more than 64,000 spectators to Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium, with prominent political, social and cinematic personalities attending the high-profile encounter.
Upendrra Rai, Chairman & Managing Director, and Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express News Network, travelled to Kolkata to witness the landmark match.
Former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain and several other VIP guests attended the event.
Speaking to the media at the stadium, CMD Upendrra Rai discussed the importance of the match, the contribution of sponsors and Bengal’s long-standing connection with football. He said the support from the Indian Football Federation, sponsors and the West Bengal government helped make the international fixture possible. He further underlined the importance of teamwork in organising a major sporting event.
CMD Upendrra Rai said the India-Brazil encounter had delivered a positive message for Indian football. He noted that the match brought the Indian team face-to-face with a FIFA world-class side and gave fans across the country an opportunity to witness the occasion.
Bharat Express News Network CMD highlighted the broadcast coverage on Sony Sports and SonyLIV, while noting Bharat Express’ coverage of the special moments from the match. He said Bengal remained central to India’s football culture and congratulated the organisers and the Bharat Express team.
Shahnawaz Hussain described the India-Brazil encounter as a historic occasion and thanked CMD Upendrra Rai for giving them the opportunity to witness the match together.
The packed stadium echoed with chants supporting the Indian team as both sides competed on the field.
Earlier, CMD Upendrra Rai attended a gala dinner organised for the players on Friday. He attended the event with his family and highlighted the importance of promoting India’s sporting culture.
