India Beat England By 7 Runs To Reach T20 World Cup 2026 Final Against New Zealand

India defeated England by seven runs in a tense second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The win confirmed a showdown with New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this victory, India moved within one step of defending their T20 World Cup title and becoming the first side to retain the trophy.

India chose to bat first and piled up a massive 253/7 against England. Sanju Samson led the charge with a blistering 89 from 42 deliveries, striking eight fours and seven sixes.

Following Abhishek Sharma’s early dismissal for nine, Samson built a vital 97-run stand with Ishan Kishan, who produced a quick 39 off 18 balls. Samson later partnered with Shivam Dube for another 43 runs, with Dube scoring a rapid 43 from 25 deliveries.

Samson completed his second successive half-century of the tournament in only 26 balls before Phil Salt caught him off the bowling of Will Jacks. Hardik Pandya then smashed 27 from 12 balls, while Tilak Varma added a quick 21 from seven deliveries to push India past the 250-run mark.

England’s chase began poorly as Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy claimed wickets during the powerplay. Despite the early setbacks, England reached 68/3 at the end of six overs.

Jacob Bethell kept England’s hopes alive with a superb century. He built important partnerships with Jos Buttler and Tom Banton before adding crucial runs with Will Jacks and Sam Curran.

Pandya dismissed Curran in the penultimate over, increasing the pressure on England. The side required 30 runs in the final over, but a sharp fielding effort resulted in Bethell’s dismissal on the first ball.

England eventually finished on 246/7, allowing India to seal a dramatic victory and advance to the final.
