Suryakumar Yadav
In a dazzling display of batting prowess, Suryakumar Yadav left an indelible mark in the second T20I against South Africa at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Despite rain disrupting the series opener, the Indian cricket sensation showcased his pyrotechnics in the second match, ensuring entertainment for the away fans.
Facing the challenge of India losing both openers for ducks, Suryakumar joined forces with Rinku Singh, steering the team from a precarious 6-2 to a formidable total. His brilliant half-century earned him 10 rating points, solidifying his position at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Batter Rankings.
With an impressive tally of 865 rating points, the 32-year-old India T20I skipper has extended his lead over his contemporaries. Following him closely are Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan (787 rating points) and South Africa’s Aiden Markram (758) in the ICC batter rankings. Suryakumar’s dominance comes just ahead of the ICC World T20, where he is anticipated to retain the top spot.
The Indian captain’s remarkable innings in the recent clash against South Africa saw him score 56 off 36 balls, contributing significantly to India’s total of 180-7 in 19.3 overs. Notably, Suryakumar crossed the 2000-run milestone, equalling Virat Kohli’s record as the joint-fastest Indian to achieve this feat in T20Is, both reaching 2,000 runs in 56 innings.
