ICC Chair Jay Shah Engages With Africa Cricket Association, Witnesses U19 World Cup Action In Namibia

International Cricket Council Chair Jay Shah met with officials of the Africa Cricket Association in Windhoek, emphasising the ICC’s dedication to growing cricket throughout the continent.

He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts with regional cricket bodies to strengthen the sport at all levels.

Jay Shah also attended an Under-19 World Cup match at Namibia Cricket’s newly developed Namibia Cricket Ground (NCG), enjoying the opportunity to watch the next generation of players in action.

On X, he described his day as productive, noting, “A productive day in Windhoek meeting with cricket leaders from the Africa Cricket Association as @ICC looks to grow and support the sport across the continent. I also enjoyed seeing future stars of the game at the #U19worldcup match at @CricketNamibia1‘s terrific new NCG venue.”

Namibia and Zimbabwe are jointly hosting the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup, with each country staging 12 group-stage fixtures.

In Namibia, teams play at the Namibia Cricket Ground and the HP Oval in Windhoek, while in Zimbabwe, matches take place at Queens Sports Club, Harare Sports Club, and Takashinga Sports Club in Harare.

Namibia’s Cricket Milestones

Namibia has recently achieved several historic milestones in cricket. The country hosted the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Windhoek from 31 August to 6 September last year, bringing together eight nations competing for two places in the Global Qualifier.

Additionally, Namibia’s men’s team made history by hosting South Africa for a one-off T20 match, inaugurating the new Namibia Cricket Ground and securing a narrow four-wicket victory in their first-ever encounter with South Africa in any international format.

The FNB NCG has already hosted matches in the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and is slated to stage games during the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, marking Namibia’s debut as a World Cup host.

Shah’s engagement with African cricket officials highlights the ICC’s ongoing focus on nurturing emerging talent, expanding cricket’s reach, and strengthening the sport in developing regions.
