Hockey Team Coach Graham Reid Resigns After Poor Show In Hockey World Cup

Graham Reid Resigns: Graham Reid, the head coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, resigned after the defeat in the World Cup. In fact, after the poor performance in the World Cup, Indian men’s hockey team head coach Graham Reid and two other members of the support staff have resigned, which has been accepted by Hockey India. India had made a great start in the Hockey World Cup 2023, but Team India failed to maintain its form and could not make it to the quarter-finals.

India’s failure in Hockey World Cup

The Indian team, which won a historic bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics under the guidance of Reid, could not make it to the quarter-finals in the World Cup held in Odisha and finished ninth. Apart from Reid, analysis coach Greg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell David Pemberton have also resigned. According to a statement issued by Hockey India, Reid submitted his resignation to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey a day after the World Cup was over. Dilip Tirkey and Hockey India Secretary General Bholanath Singh met Reid and other support staff to discuss the team’s performance. Apart from the head coach, Clarke and David also resigned on Monday morning. All three will remain in the notice period for the next month.

It is time for me to step down and hand over the reins to new management, Reid said. It was a lot of fun working with this team and Hockey India. I enjoyed every moment of this wonderful journey. Best wishes to the team for the future. With Reid and his team, India won the Olympic bronze medal after 41 years. Apart from this, the team secured silver in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and third place in the FIH Pro League 2021-22 season. Under Reid’s training, the Indian team won the FIH World Series Finals in 2019. After this, they qualified for the Tokyo Games by winning the Olympic qualifiers in Bhubaneswar.
