Hardik Pandya
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, former Australian cricket team spinner Brad Hogg shared his perspective on the departure of all-rounder Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Despite Pandya’s significant contributions to GT’s successes in the past, including winning the title in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in 2023 under his captaincy, Hogg believes that Gujarat Titans may benefit from his absence.
Hogg expressed that while Pandya is undoubtedly a quality all-rounder in the middle order, he doesn’t view his departure as a major loss for GT. According to Hogg, Gujarat Titans possess strong bowling depth, which can help compensate for Pandya’s absence. Additionally, Hogg remarked that Pandya’s batting position in the top order might not have been ideal, suggesting that GT might be better off without him.
However, Hogg sees Pandya’s move to the Mumbai Indians (MI) as a positive development for both the player and the team. He believes that Mumbai Indians will benefit from having an Indian all-rounder like Pandya batting in the lower middle order. Hogg expressed optimism that Pandya will rediscover his best form with Mumbai Indians.
Indeed, Pandya has joined the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of the IPL season, which is set to commence on March 22. Notably, Pandya is poised to take on the captaincy role for Mumbai Indians, replacing their five-time IPL trophy-winning skipper Rohit Sharma in the 2024 season.
