Legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly has named three key members of the Indian side who can lead the Men in Blue to their third title victory in the 50-over format as the ICC World Cup 2023 approaches. India, the two-time champions, will once again serve as the 50-over World Cup’s host nation. Team India had broken a 28-year drought by winning the ODI World Cup at home under MS Dhoni’s direction.
Ganguly, who led Team India to the 2003 ICC World Cup championship, thinks Rohit and company are favorites to win on home soil. The run-making machine Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, and the youngster Shubman Gill were also chosen by the former India captain as the three important players for the Indian squad at the biggest stage of them all. According to the former Indian batter, India’s go-to players at the ODI World Cup are an effective Kohli and captain Rohit.
The former captain of India projected that veteran opener Rohit would play in his final World Cup 50-over match. “Virat is performing excellently. Along with Rohit Sharma, he has batted superbly over the past few months and has established himself as India’s go-to player. As captain, Rohit is competing in his first and final World Cup. Here, I’m referring to the 50-over World Cup, which will occur in four years. Although this is a new format, he may play T20, according to Ganguly on the Backstage With Boria program.
2019 saw a sensational World Cup for Rohit. At the last 50-over World Cup, the 36-year-old scored hundreds against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. He also has a stellar track record in World Cups. He was outstanding in the most recent World Cup, scoring 500 runs. Shubman Gill is the last player in the class to step up and secure victories for India. If
India is to win the competition, each of them must step up, Ganguly continued. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8, five-time champion Australia will face off against former champion India.
