From Cricket To Khaki: Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep Join Bihar Police As DSPs

Indian cricketers Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have officially joined the Bihar Police after being provisionally appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). Their appointments followed a notification issued by the Bihar Home Department under the Bihar Direct Recruitment of Outstanding Sportspersons (Amendment) Rules, 2026, based on recommendations from a high-level selection committee constituted under the policy.

The move aims to recognise outstanding sporting talent and encourage accomplished athletes by providing them opportunities to enter public service through direct recruitment.

Both cricketers reported for duty at Bihar Police Headquarters in Patna on August 10, marking a new phase in their careers after representing India internationally.

A special welcome ceremony took place at the police headquarters to formally induct the two newly appointed DSPs into the Bihar Police.

Bihar Director General of Police Vinay Kumar honoured both officers and welcomed them to the force.

Several senior police and administrative officials, including Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Manoj Kumar, attended the ceremony and wished the two cricketers success in their new roles.

The appointments mark a significant transition for Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep, who have gained recognition as fast bowlers and will now serve the people of Bihar in uniform.

Mukesh Kumar made his international debut for India in July 2023 in a Test match. He subsequently represented India across all three formats — Test, One Day International and T20 International.

Akash Deep made his international debut in a Test against England on February 23, 2024, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Since then, he has continued to represent India internationally and emerged as a promising fast bowler.
