Saudi Arabia, the only sole contender of 2034 FIFA World Cup
The world governing body of soccer said on Tuesdsay that Saudi Arabia was the only football association to submit a proposal to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034 before the deadline expired. By October 31, FIFA requested bids from Asia and Oceania for the competition, minutes later on October 4, Saudi Arabia declared its intention to submit a bid.
Saudi Arabia is the sole contender to host the tournament after Australia announced on Tuesday that it would not be submitting a bid.
The FIFA administration will carry out exhaustive bidding and evaluation procedures for the 2030 and 2034 FIFA World Cups, as specified in the Bidding Regulations approved by the FIFA Council, FIFA Congresses will appoint the hosts, who are anticipated to do so by Q4 2024, FIFA said.
According to Saudi FA President Yasser Al Misehal, the country is totally dedicated to meeting all FIFA standards in order to be granted the privilege of hosting the World Cup.
“All members of the Saudi football family are doing their best to achieve the dream of the Saudis male and females to see the World Cup in the Kingdom for the first time,” he said on social media platform X. “We believe in the great power of football to inspire future generations and we hope World Cup 2034 contributes to the development of the game throughout the world.”
FIFA further revealed that Morocco, Portugal, and Spain were the only countries to express interest in hosting the 2030 World Cup, with Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay staging commemorative matches.
