Ferran Torres Inspires Spain To FIFA World Cup 2026 Triumph Over Argentina

Spain were crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions after overcoming Argentina 1-0 following extra time in a gripping final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Substitute Ferran Torres found the decisive breakthrough in the 106th minute, earning Spain their second world title and first since their memorable triumph in 2010.

Neither side managed to score during regulation time despite several promising attacks.

The decisive moment arrived in extra time when Nico Williams nodded the ball into Torres’ path, allowing the forward to fire a powerful left-footed finish beyond Emiliano Martinez.

Luis de la Fuente’s men dictated possession for large periods and consistently tested the Argentine defence.

Martinez kept his side in contention with a string of outstanding saves, while Spain’s organised backline successfully restricted Lionel Messi and the Argentine attack to very few clear opportunities.

Argentina’s challenge became even more difficult in stoppage time when Enzo Fernandez collected a second yellow card, forcing the defending champions to play the entire extra-time period with 10 men.

Spain capitalised on the numerical advantage by maintaining relentless pressure.

Spain believed they had doubled their advantage during extra time, but the referee disallowed the goal because of a foul in the build-up.

Nevertheless, the European champions remained composed, protected their slender lead and comfortably saw out the remaining minutes.

The victory completed an unbeaten campaign for Spain, who added a second FIFA World Cup trophy to their collection after their 2010 success.

Argentina’s hopes of retaining the title came to an end as their reign as world champions concluded with a narrow defeat.
