England Bowl Out India For 233 In Second ODI Despite Kohli, Iyer Fifties

India suffered a dramatic middle-order collapse to be bowled out for 233 in 44 overs despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer in the second ODI against England at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Thursday.

England’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer (3-47) and Gus Atkinson (3-50), dismantled India’s batting after the visitors had reached a comfortable 178/3. India lost their last seven wickets for just 55 runs, with England’s pacers accounting for nine of the 10 wickets.

After England put India into bat, captain Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma made a cautious start. Gill looked fluent before falling for 31, while Rohit managed 26.

Kohli anchored the innings with a composed 65 off 66 balls, adding a crucial partnership with Iyer, who struck 66 off 71 deliveries.

Kohli reached his fifty off 50 balls before Archer ended his innings in the 32nd over. Washington Sundar departed soon after, triggering India’s collapse.

Iyer continued to fight, bringing up his half-century in 42 balls, but Archer struck twice in successive deliveries to remove Axar Patel and Shivam Dube.

Saqib Mahmood (2-52) also chipped in with key wickets as India’s tail folded quickly.

A late unbeaten 20 off 13 balls from Jasprit Bumrah, featuring an 18-run over against Mahmood, briefly lifted India’s total.

Atkinson dismissed Iyer before removing Prasidh Krishna to wrap up the innings.

England now requires 234 runs to level the three-match ODI series.

Brief Scores

India 233 all out in 44 overs (Shreyas Iyer 66, Virat Kohli 65; Jofra Archer 3-47, Gus Atkinson 3-50) vs England.
