CSK’s Khaleel Ahmed Ruled Out Of IPL 2026 With Quadricep Injury

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in their IPL 2026 campaign, with left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a right quadricep injury.

Taking to X, the Chennai Super Kings posted, “OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after sustaining a right quadricep injury in the game against KKR. Wishing Khaleel a speedy recovery.”

The 28-year-old pacer sustained the injury during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, where CSK secured a 32-run win. Khaleel left the field after he pulled up mid-run-up during the KKR innings.

Initially appearing to suffer from severe cramps, he later clutched his right leg in discomfort and walked off, with teammate Gurjapneet Singh completing the remaining deliveries of his over.

“The injury also involves tears in the quadriceps, and Khaleel may require surgery. It is a serious injury for a fast bowler, as anything near that area takes a long time to heal and requires careful rehabilitation,” an IPL source said.

Khaleel’s absence leaves a significant gap in CSK’s pace attack, which is already dealing with injuries. The team is without MS Dhoni, who is recovering from a calf issue, while Spencer Johnson is yet to rejoin the squad as he recovers from a back stress fracture.

Replacement Options in Focus

To fill the void, CSK may turn to seamers Mukesh Choudhary and Ramakrishna Ghosh. While Choudhary offers a like-for-like left-arm option, Ghosh adds value as a right-arm quick and lower-order batter, having impressed for Maharashtra in the 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

With two wins from five matches, the Chennai Super Kings, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Saturday.
