Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final, and captain MS Dhoni ensured that the team kept doing “just CSK things” even in the latter stages of his illustrious career. The record-time verified Dhoni’s participation in their title-defending campaign in a social media statement on Sunday. In the 2024 season of the lucrative league, the former captain of India, after leading CSK to a fifth triumph that tied the record, will captain the Yellow Brigade.
Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, K. Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati, Ambati Rayudu, Kyle Jamieson, Akash Singh, and Sisanda Magala have all been released by CSK ahead of the mini-auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League. The Chennai-based team decided to keep superstars Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming season, but England Test captain Stokes decided to withdraw from the IPL 2024 in order to manage his workload and fitness.

When talking about CSK’s auction plan on his YouTube channel, Ashwin expressed his opinion that CSK will try to re-sign all-rounder Shardul Thakur before the retention period expires. Thakur was recently released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Additionally, Ashwin thinks that Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opener, will succeed Dhoni as captain. After Jadeja resigned as captain of CSK for the 2022 IPL, legendary cricketer Dhoni took over.
“As Ambati Rayudu stated in his most recent interview, I think Ruturaj Gaikwad will take over as captain, which is a position that CSK would look to fill. Ben Stokes was also selected by CSK based on the same notion that he had a strong right hand. He is undoubtedly a capable team leader, and CSK is an experienced group. “I believe they will return to Shardul and regain their combination,” Ashwin clarified.

winners setting records During the mini-auction, CSK will try to sign fast bowlers and all-rounders from abroad. To increase their budget for the mini-auction, Dhoni and company have released Stokes (of INR 16.25 crore) and Ambati Rayudu (worth INR 6.75 crore). The auction fund of Chennai Super Kings is INR 31.4 crore. CSK has won five IPL titles under Dhoni’s direction: in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
“They would also be considering retentions for the upcoming season and who will start in place of MS Dhoni as keeper. In fact, there were a ton of rumors circulating that CSK planned to deal this guy in order to view him as MS Dhoni’s potential replacement. I don’t want to criticize others because I play in a franchise as well. However, Ashwin continued, “a team like CSK is full of thinkers.”
