In the 22nd fixture of the Indian Premier League 2026, Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Batting first, CSK managed to put up a competitive total of 192 for five in their allotted 20 overs. After being asked to bat first, CSK endured a shaky start.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad once again failed to make an impact, scoring just 7 runs off 6 deliveries before departing early.
Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre steadied the innings with a crucial 47-run stand for the second wicket in just 22 balls. The partnership provided much-needed stability after an early setback. It also helped Chennai regain momentum.
Ayush Mhatre played a brisk knock of 38 runs from 17 balls, striking 6 fours and 2 sixes. Samson continued the charge with a well-crafted 48 off 32 deliveries, including 4 boundaries and 3 maximums.
Sarfaraz Khan made a steady start. He failed to convert it into a big score and fell for 23 off 18 balls to Sunil Narine. Dewald Brevis then scored a fluent 41 off 29 balls. His innings included four boundaries and two sixes.
In the closing stages, Shivam Dube found it difficult to accelerate, managing 13 runs from 12 balls. Jamie Overton remained unbeaten on 7 as CSK finished strongly but short of a 200-plus total.
For KKR, Kartik Tyagi was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 35 runs. Vaibhav Arora, Anukul Roy, and Sunil Narine chipped in with one wicket each.
Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK fielded a side comprising Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan, Jamie Overton, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, and Gurjapneet Singh.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR’s playing XI featured Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wicketkeeper), Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Rovman Powell, Ramandeep Singh, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kartik Tyagi, and Vaibhav Arora.
