Can RCB Defend Their Crown? A Look At Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Road To IPL 2026 Final

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one step away from retaining the IPL crown as they get ready to face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

After ending years of waiting with their maiden title last season, the franchise now has the chance to become back-to-back champions.

Led by Rajat Patidar, Bengaluru emerged as the most consistent side during the league phase, collecting nine wins from 14 matches to finish first in the standings.

The campaign began on a positive note with victories over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, giving the team early momentum.

Rajasthan Royals later handed RCB their first setback of the season, but the defeat had little impact on their confidence. The side quickly recovered by registering important wins against the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants.

A close defeat against Delhi Capitals briefly slowed Bengaluru’s progress, but the team soon rediscovered its rhythm. They secured a convincing victory over the Gujarat Titans and followed it with a dominant display against Delhi, dismissing their opponents cheaply before completing the chase with ease.

The defending champions faced another difficult phase when consecutive losses against Gujarat and Lucknow threatened to derail their campaign.

Instead of losing momentum, Bengaluru responded with three crucial victories on the trot against the Mumbai Indians, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings.

Although Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them comprehensively in their final league fixture, RCB still claimed the top spot due to their superior net run rate.

Qualifier 1 Masterclass Against Gujarat

Bengaluru produced their most complete performance of the season in Qualifier 1 against the Gujarat Titans. Patidar played a captain’s knock, smashing 93 from only 33 deliveries and powering his side to an imposing total of 254.

The bowlers complemented the batting effort brilliantly, restricting Gujarat to 162 and securing a commanding 92-run triumph to advance directly to the final.

Several players have played pivotal roles in RCB’s run to the final. Virat Kohli once again led the batting charts for the franchise, amassing 600 runs in 15 matches, while Patidar made a significant contribution with 486 runs from 14 innings.

In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar spearheaded the attack with 26 wickets, while emerging pacer Rasikh Salam impressed with 16 scalps in just 11 appearances.

With another final on the horizon, RCB will be eager to extend their strong run of form and add a second IPL trophy to their cabinet.
