Before facing Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s Coach Discusses Team Morale, Says “After The India Match, We Were…”

Morne Morkel, the bowling coach for Pakistan, believes that after a lackluster performance overall in the Asia Cup, Pakistan’s spinners will rebound against Sri Lanka. Pakistan will face the defending Asia Cup champions, who have a good chance of retaining their title if they can get back to winning. Due to their higher net run rate than Pakistan, Sri Lanka is in a strong position to go to this year’s final. They can secure a spot in the championship game by defeating Babar Azam’s team in their last Super Four game on Thursday.

They can easily qualify with a win, and they can also advance with a tie or no result because there isn’t a reserve day scheduled for the final two Super Four games.

The match between Sri Lanka and India served as an example of how well the spinner-friendly pitch will perform. Pakistan’s pacers have dominated the Asia Cup as a whole, but according to Morkel, the country’s spinners are up to the challenge.

“The conditions are favorable for spinning, and I believe our spinners are putting in a lot of effort right now. When called upon, they will be the first to raise their hands. They are all seasoned players who have won games. They have the ability to recover,” Morkel noted during the pre-game press conference.

He also considered how their great fast bowler Naseem Shah was not present for a crucial Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka, but he felt it was an opportunity for the replacement players to rise up and demonstrate character.

Due to a shoulder injury he suffered on the reserve day of Pakistan’s match against India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier in the day declared Naseem ineligible for the entirety of the Asia Cup. Young right-arm quick Zaman Khan has risen to the occasion to take his place.
