According to reports, the BCCI has told the young Indian players that they will no longer be able to request Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey. Tendulkar’s No. 10 was removed from the list earlier.
BCCI has chosen to retire MS Dhoni’s number seven jersey after Sachin Tendulkar’s number ten. The choice was made in August 2020, three and a half years after Dhoni hung up his boots. However, he played his final game for India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final match against New Zealand in Manchester, England, donning jersey number seven.
Among the greatest names in Indian cricket history would be Dhoni. As far as the three ICC white-ball tournaments go, he is the only captain to have won them all.At South Africa’s inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup, he guided a youthful Indian team to victory. After four years, in the 2011 World Cup final match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Dhoni struck the legendary six, ending India’s 28-year wait for an ODI World Cup. India won its final ICC championship in 2013 under Dhoni’s leadership, when they won the Champions Trophy.
But the young Indian cricket players have very few options now that jersey numbers have been retired. Only the retired cricket players’ jersey numbers are permitted to be chosen by the incoming players under the current setup.
