BCCI Airlifts Rishabh Pant To Mumbai For Treatment; Abhinav Bindra Appreciates BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to airlift Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant from Dehradun. The decision was taken by BCCI secretary Jay Shah ahead of a review meeting. Shooting ace, Abhinav Bindra appreciates BCCI for helping out Rishabh Pant in his difficult phase but said the board must provide Rishabh Pant “psychological support”.

BCCI On Pant’s Airlift

The airlift decision was taken after it was certified by the BCCI and the doctors of Max Dehradun. The 25-year-old is recovering from different injuries sustained from the road accident on the Delhi-Derhadun Highway on December 30.

The BBCI secretary Jay Shah asked the board to send an air-ambulance by which the Indian cricketer, Pant will be moved to Mumbai for further treatment of his ligament tear on his right knee.

The BCCI, meanwhile, confirmed that Pant will be brought to Mumbai in an air ambulance and admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute. He will be under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head — the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director — Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital.

Further treatment of Rishabh Pant will be decided by the doctors of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

According to the BCCI medical team, Pant suffered two cuts on his forehead, injury on his right wrist, ankle, toe and abrasion injuries on his back besides the ligament tear on his right knee in the near fatal accident. Immediately after the mishap, Shah had formed a medical team which had advised the Derhadun hospital medical staff to refrain from treating his ligament tear. The BCCI had taken the responsibility upon itself to treat the ailment which will now be done in Mumbai.

ABhinav Bindra’s Note To BCCI

Olympic champion Abhinav Bhindra has lauded the BCCI for helping out Rishabh Pant in his difficult phase. However, He said the board must provide Rishabh Pant “psychological support”.

“Wonderful that the board is looking after Rishabh’s recovery. Must also provide psychological support as part of the healing and recovery process!” Bindra tweeted.

The shooting ace Abhinav, historic gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He runs the Abhinav Bindra Sports Medicine and Research Institute (ABSMARI).  It is a one-of-a-kind institute for physiotherapy in the country with a world-class biomechanical and sports science laboratory set up for academic purposes — in Bhubaneswar.
