At Just 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Rewrites IPL History With Orange Cap

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi capped an outstanding season by ending IPL 2026 at the top of the batting charts and securing the Orange Cap.

The Rajasthan Royals opener amassed 776 runs across 16 innings and remained comfortably ahead of the chasing pack even after his team’s elimination in Qualifier 2. His tally proved beyond the reach of every batter who featured in the closing stages of the tournament.

Shubman Gill finished second with 732 runs, while Sai Sudharsan occupied third place after accumulating 722 runs during the Gujarat Titans’ run to the final.

Sooryavanshi achieved the feat at the age of just 15 years and 65 days, making him the youngest Orange Cap winner in IPL history. He comfortably eclipsed the previous record held by Sai Sudharsan, who collected the award in 2025.

The achievement underlined the teenager’s remarkable rise and showcased his ability to compete against established international stars.

The young opener built his success on an attacking brand of cricket that few bowlers managed to contain. He maintained an exceptional strike rate of 237.31 throughout the competition and regularly dominated bowling attacks from the first ball. His fearless batting became one of the defining features of the season.

Sooryavanshi also established a new IPL record for the most sixes in a single campaign. He struck 72 maximums, moving past Chris Gayle’s long-standing mark of 59 and setting a fresh benchmark for power-hitting excellence.

The teenager added several notable milestones to his impressive season. He reached 1,000 IPL runs faster than any other player in terms of balls faced, requiring only 440 deliveries to achieve the landmark.

Sooryavanshi also became the second-fastest player to reach the milestone by innings played, getting there in just 23 knocks.

While Sooryavanshi celebrated one century during the campaign, fortune denied him further three-figure scores on multiple occasions. Innings of 93, 97 and 96 left him narrowly short of adding more hundreds to his tally.

Sooryavanshi’s influence extended far beyond the statistics he accumulated. His blend of consistency, composure and attacking intent, however, made him one of the tournament’s standout performers.

Throughout IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi entertained crowds and dismantled bowling attacks with a maturity well beyond his years.

The Orange Cap crowns a remarkable season for the young batter. It reflects his consistency throughout the campaign. It, however, highlights his potential to influence Indian cricket for years to come.
