Asian Games 2026: India Women Face Bangladesh In Semifinal To Defend Gold

Indian women will face Bangladesh in the second semifinal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 at Korogi Sports Park on Sunday as they look to retain the gold medal they won at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side reached the last four after defeating hosts Japan in the quarterfinal.

India will now meet Bangladesh in a repeat of the 2023 Asian Games semifinal, while Sri Lanka will face Pakistan in the other last-four clash.

India enter the semifinal after winning their eighth Asia Cup title. The team has also carried its strong form into the Asian Games, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana leading the batting. The bowling attack has also delivered consistently.

Sree Charani has emerged as a key performer after taking four wickets in consecutive matches.

She claimed another four-wicket haul against Japan in the quarterfinal and currently holds the World No. 1 ranking among T20I bowlers.

Deepti Sharma continues to contribute with both bat and ball, while fast bowler Nandani Sharma has also impressed.

Leg-spinner Shreyanka Patil strengthened the attack after returning from injury and took a wicket in the quarterfinal.

India will also look for greater contributions from their middle order after the top order carried much of the batting responsibility during the Asia Cup.

Bangladesh enter the semifinal without playing their quarterfinal, as their match against China was washed out. They advanced because of their higher ranking.

Nigar Sultana will lead Bangladesh as the team seeks an upset against India.

Bangladesh have won only three of their 25 meetings with India and have often struggled to produce competitive totals against leading teams, despite showing promise with the ball.
