Asian Games 2023: Shooters Win First Gold For India, World Record In 10m Air Rifle Team Event Broken

At the Asian Games 2023, which are currently taking place, the Indian Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team shattered the world record to earn the country’s first gold medal.
Along with winning India’s first gold medal of the games, the team, which included Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, also broke a world record.

The trio broke the previous world record, which China had established earlier that year at the Baku World Championship, by shooting a total of 1893.7 points in the individual qualification round. China came in third with a total score of 1888.2, while South Korea came in second with 1890.1 points.

Rudrankksh, who came in third in qualifying, led the team with 631.6 points. For India, Aishwary scored 631.6 points and Divyansh scored 629.6.

India won the gold medal in the team competition, and all three shooters advanced to the top eight in the 10 meter air rifle competition. According to Asian Games regulations, only two competitors from each nation can proceed to the final; hence, Rudrankksh and Aishwary did so while Divyansh was left out.

The Indian shooters made a small error in the first set, scoring 104.8 apiece for Rudranksh, Divyansh, and Aishwary and 104.1 for Aishwary. They rapidly recovered, though, steadily raising their points in the following series. The squad smashed the record after amassing an astounding 1893.7 points in the sixth series, breaking it.

Due to the fact that it was India’s first gold medal at the Asian Games 2023, this victory was especially noteworthy. India finished the first official day with five medals—three silver and two bronze—setting the tone for the nation’s success at the games.

Ashi Chouksey, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ramita Jindal’s women’s 10m air rifle team created history by winning India’s first medal at Hangzhou 2023, a silver in shooting.
