Ashes Update: Cummins And Lyon Reinforced Australia XI For Adelaide Test, Khawaja Left Out

Ahead of the crucial third Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval, Australia have welcomed back captain Pat Cummins and off-spinner Nathan Lyon to the playing XI.

Following an emphatic eight-wicket win at the Gabba, the hosts have opted for experience as they aim to consolidate their position in the series.

Cummins confirmed that he is fully fit and ready to shoulder a full workload as he makes his first Test appearance since the mid-year series against the West Indies.

Speaking before the match, the fast bowler expressed confidence in his preparation and readiness for red-ball cricket.

According to Cummins, he has been bowling at full intensity for some time. He will not face any restrictions in Adelaide, unlike the precautions that were in place earlier in the season.

Unfortunately for Michael Neser, the selectors have omitted the all-rounder despite his five-wicket haul in the previous Test.

Similarly, Australia have left out seamer Brendan Doggett, who featured in the opening two matches, as they adjusted their bowling combination.

Addressing the selection calls, Cummins acknowledged the disappointment within the squad but highlighted the importance of depth and unity during a demanding Ashes campaign.

Emphasising the collective effort, he noted that several players have missed opportunities despite strong performances.

Khawaja Left Out, Openers Backed

Meanwhile, the selectors have excluded veteran opener Usman Khawaja from the XI and continue to back Travis Head and Jake Weatherald at the top of the order.

Despite the decision, Cummins was quick to stress that Khawaja remains an important figure within the squad.

Reiterating his support, the Australian captain stated that Khawaja continues to be a committed team player and that age was not a defining factor in the selection process.

Additionally, Josh Inglis has retained his spot and will bat at No 7.
