“An Athlete’s Shelf Life Is Relatively Short,” World Champion Nikhat Zareen In An Interview

Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Nitu Ghanghas, and Saweety Boora have secured the top positions in the list of women boxers around the globe. The squad has bagged laurels for the nation from the Women’s World Boxing Championship. Four of them belong to different cultural identities. Lovlina comes from Assamese background, Nitu and Saweety come from the sports center of India, Haryana and Nikhat come from the southern state of Telangana.

Interestingly, all of them have gone through similar paths to reach this stage. They started from a very humble background, their parents struggled for them and they all have worked hard for what they are today. Considering all the above mentioned, Nikhat has shared a major belief of hers as follows.

Nikhat lives her life to the fullest

While she was asked about handling stardom, mentioned how she used to fantasize celebrities. According to her, it is a wonderful feeling when people know you. Followed by her victory in World Championship in (Istanbul) she got a lot of appreciation and acknowledgment from to nation. Having said that, she said that she will always prioritize her game because it is the game that has won her stardom. In addition to this, she said that she would never change because of stardom, she will still remain childish and outspoken. She is a person who enjoys her life to the fullest. She expressed that when there are no competitions, she does not even talk about boxing. She tends to involve herself in household chores like a normal girl.

In the same conversation, she mentioned that “An athlete’s shelf life is relatively short. For me, the life I am living today, I want to enjoy it to the fullest. You don’t often get to lead such a privileged life, especially in my community and religion. She also talked about the uncertainties of life and that she lives in the present and enjoys all that she has.

Lovlina has a different aim in life

Lovlina says that she tries to stay from the limelight or stardom, also that doesn’t like much attention. She doesn’t really aim to become a big star, she dreams of something different. She accepted the fact that her boxing career would eventually come to an end and she will leave it. Up next, she shared that her wish is to do charity and help needy people. She denies becoming a politician. She simply wants to spend the money that she earns from boxing on the underprivileged.

No mercy inside the ‘Ring’, says Nitu

Nitu expressed the emotions that she has during her match. She said that the moment she enters the ring, she has only one target which is of victory. Then she doesn’t offer any favors to the opponent=nt, she is simply thinking of the opponent as her enemy. She said that she shows no mercy to her opponent when she is in the ring.

“Had pizza twice, during the stay at World Championship,” admitted Saweety

While talking about her food cravings, Saweety stated that eats the food she wishes for. After that, she might run an extra mile or so but she likes to eat what she feels like eating. Once, she was on weight management and her mother had sent Malpuas (pancakes) for her. She had them after a long time of controlling and then ran for one-and-a-half-hour more. Likewise, she had pizza twice during her stay at the Worlds.
