Aaron Finch Names Top 5 Australian IPL Performers; Picks Shane Watson As No 1

Former Australia skipper Aaron Finch has unveiled his list of the top five Australian performers in the Indian Premier League, emphasising the crucial role played by international stars throughout the tournament’s history.

Finch placed Mike Hussey in fifth position, commending his dependable batting and ability to stabilise innings.

Representing Chennai Super Kings, Hussey delivered consistent performances, including an outstanding season in which he accumulated 733 runs.

In fourth place, Finch chose former fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, highlighting his effectiveness with the new ball.

Playing for the Mumbai Indians, Johnson produced decisive spells, notably defending a modest total in a tense final over during a championship-winning season.

At number three, Josh Hazlewood earned recognition for his control and adaptability in the T20 format.

Finch noted his ability to maintain tight economy rates and deliver breakthroughs regularly in a format dominated by aggressive batting. He ranked David Warner second, acknowledging his sustained excellence and captaincy.

Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their 2016 title and has consistently delivered with the bat, recording numerous fifty-plus scores over the years.

Topping Finch’s list is Shane Watson, recognised for his outstanding all-round contributions.

Featuring for the Rajasthan Royals and also Chennai Super Kings, Watson enjoyed a highly successful career, scoring 3,874 runs and taking 92 wickets. He also earned multiple individual honours and played pivotal roles in title-winning campaigns.
