India will face New Zealand in the opening match of their five-match T20I series at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Thursday.
The team enters the contest after a 2-2 series draw against the West Indies, with rain washing out the deciding match in Bengaluru on October 17.
India’s Asian Games campaign ended on October 3, just days before the home series began.
The packed schedule has left the visitors with limited recovery time and only one training session in Christchurch.
New Zealand enter the series with confidence after winning their most recent Test and ODI series in India.
Injuries have ruled out Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra, potentially opening a place for Devon Conway in the top three alongside Finn Allen and Tim Seifert.
Allen, who averages 35.68 at a strike rate of 184.21 in home T20Is, will make his first appearance in the format on home soil since March 2025.
The hosts possess several pace options, including Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne and Kyle Jamieson.
India will miss Jasprit Bumrah, who is resting ahead of the Test series, and Hardik Pandya, who has not played international cricket since the T20 World Cup final in March.
The team must decide whether to include both Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivam Dube, potentially leaving out Naman Dhir.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar could feature, while Varun Chakaravarthy’s selection remains uncertain if India opt for an additional seamer.

India have won their last two bilateral T20I series in New Zealand. Ishan Kishan needs seven runs to surpass Suryakumar Yadav’s record of 1,164 T20I runs in a calendar year by an Indian player.
