On the new JN.1 variant, Dr. Gautam Bhansali, consultant physician at Bombay Hospital, says, “JN.1 is a family of the omicron variant, which is a very mild variant. It is just like the common flu or viral fever, there is nothing to worry about. There might be a surge in cases, but there will be no wave… The omicron variant wreaked havoc around the world, but in India, the affected recovered easily at home because 80% of our population was doubly vaccinated. Vaccination will play a major role in preventing another wave… Children, senior citizens and those with highly co-morbid medical conditions need to be very careful because their immunity is low.”
