CBI in a letter to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, solicited a copy of the ethics committee report in a case involving expelled Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra. The probe agency is already conducting an inquiry into the case following the directives of the Lokpal, India’s anti-corruption ombudsman. The Lok Sabha Secretariat is yet to give the ethics committee report to the CBI. Further, if the Lok Sabha Secretariat forwards the report to the CBI, securing the necessary sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the agency could register an FIR directly without an approval from the Lokpal.
