A potentially divisive new study contends that the universe’s expansion might be a hoax.
This reframing of the universe also proposes a solution to the mysteries of dark energy and dark matter, which scientists say account for approximately 95% of the universe’s total energy and matter but remain cloaked in mystery.
Lucas Lombriser, a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Geneva, presents the revolutionary new technique in a study published on June 2 in the journal Classical and Quantum Gravity.
According to the research paper titled ‘Cosmology in Minkowski Space’, Scientists believe the universe is expanding due to redshift, which is the stretching of light’s wavelength towards the redder end of the spectrum as the object releasing it moves away from us.
Distant galaxies have a higher redshift than those closer to us, indicating that they are traveling away from us.
Lombriser explained, “In this work, we put on a new pair of glasses to look at the cosmos and its unsolved puzzles by performing a mathematical transformation of the physical laws that govern it”.
“I was surprised that the cosmological constant problem seems to simply disappear in this new perspective on the cosmos”, Lombriser added.
According to Lombriser’s mathematical interpretation, the universe is not expanding but rather flat and static, as Einstein previously claimed.
The reported expansion effects are really explained by the evolution of particle masses, such as protons and electrons, over time.
This alternative interpretation contradicts the conventional understanding of the universe’s expansion and sheds new light on the mysteries of dark energy and dark matter.
More research and analysis will be required to thoroughly evaluate the validity and implications of this new perspective.
It does, however, serve as a reminder that our understanding of the universe is continually evolving, and what appears to be a hoax may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries that continue to evade us.
