Vinesh Phogat Admitted To Games Village Polyclinic After Paris Olympics Disqualification

After her disqualification from the women’s 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat sought treatment at the Games Village polyclinic for dehydration.

The setback occurred when Phogat exceeded the weight limit by a few grams.

Sources told IANS that Vinesh Phogat sought treatment for dehydration at the Games Village polyclinic, not at any hospital.

In response to the disqualification, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) released a statement on Wednesday.

They addressed Vinesh’s exit and requested privacy for the athlete. According to the IOA, Phogat will be ranked last in the competition following her disqualification.

“It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50 kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50 kg this morning. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand,” the IOA statement read.

Following the disqualification, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to IOA President PT Usha to discuss potential options for supporting Vinesh Phogat.

He urged the IOA to explore all avenues to assist Phogat and suggested filing a formal protest if it could aid her case.

Phogat, who made history as the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzman 5-0 in the semifinal on Tuesday night, was in high spirits before the disqualification.

Following her semifinal victory, she took extensive measures to meet the weight category requirements, including jogging, skipping, and cycling.
