Paris Olympics: CAS To Announce Decision On Vinesh Phogat Case By 9:30 PM

Paris, Aug 10: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will announce its decision on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s case today at 6:00 pm local time (9:30 pm IST). Vinesh has challenged her disqualification from the 50kg gold medal bout at the Paris Olympics. She seeks a shared silver medal with Yusneylis Guzman Lopez.

Dr. Annabelle Bennett AC SC, the Sole Arbitrator from Australia, heard the case for three hours. The hearing involved Vinesh Phogat, United World Wrestling, the International Olympic Committee, and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). CAS, in a statement, confirmed the decision time and extended the deadline to announce it until August 10, 2024, at 6:00 pm (Paris time).

Both parties submitted their detailed legal arguments before the hearing and presented oral arguments. The Sole Arbitrator indicated that the decision may be expected soon, with a detailed order to follow.

IOA President P.T. Usha thanked senior advocates Harish Salve, Vidushpat Singhania, and the Krida Legal team for their assistance in presenting the IOA’s arguments during the hearing.
