Prajwal Revenna Sentenced To Life Imprisonment In Sexual Harassment Case

Prajwal Revenna, former Janta Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case.

A Special Court for MPs and MLAs in Bengaluru pronounced the verdict on Saturday.

The court also imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine against Revenna, of which Rs 7 lakh will be given to the victim a compensation.

He was found guilty in one of three rape cases registered against him in Karnataka’s Hassan district last year. Revenna was accused of raping a middle-aged domestic help at a family-owned farmhouse, while exercising ‘a position of dominance’.

Upon hearing the news of his conviction on Friday, Revenna reportedly broke down before the court. He alleged that the women who complained against him were deliberately brought forward by the prosecution. He claimed they did not come forward voluntarily.

Revenna further said that he had done nothing wrong and his only mistake was growing too fast in politics. He requested the court for a lesser punishment.

Prajwal, 34, a three-time MP, is still facing trial under three other cases on similar charges.
