In a landmark judgment, Delhi’s Rohini Court has sentenced a 48-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for aggravated sexual assault on a seven-year-old girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh, which will be awarded to the victim.
The incident dates back to 2018. The convict was found guilty under Sections 10 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
While delivering the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Sushil Bala Dagar emphasized that the punishment should fit the severity of the crime. The court noted that the victim stood firm in her testimony, and the convict deserved no sympathy.

In a separate case, a 60-year-old government employee was sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor and impregnating her. The court observed that undue leniency would undermine the victim’s confidence in the justice system.
The verdict highlighted the need for stringent punishment in child abuse cases. The court stressed that while increasing punishment severity may not deter such crimes, leniency would be detrimental to the justice system.
