The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on businessman Amandeep Singh Dhal’s petition in the Delhi liquor policy case. The court has sought a reply from CBI and will hear the case next on March 19.
Dhal has challenged the CBI’s chargesheet and summons order. However, CBI opposed his petition, calling it unfit for hearing. Following this, the court asked both CBI and Dhal to file a brief note.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Dhal on March 1, 2023, in the money laundering case. Officials claim strong digital evidence and witness statements prove his involvement.
The Delhi High Court granted Dhal bail with strict conditions. He must appear before the investigating officer every Monday and avoid tampering with evidence or threatening witnesses. Earlier, the Supreme Court granted him bail after 557 days in custody.
The ED and CBI allege irregularities in amending the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Officials claim that undue benefits were given to license holders.
Dhal, director of Budraco Sales Private Limited, allegedly conspired with other accused and played an active role in formulating the liquor policy. Several other accused, including former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, BRS leader K Kavitha, and Vijay Nair, have also received bail.
