The Central Government has approved the Collegium’s recommendation to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
Following this approval, Justice Varma has been instructed to take charge at the Allahabad High Court.
The Department of Justice (Appointment Division) under the Ministry of Law and Justice issued a notification confirming this decision.
According to the official notification, the President, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, decided to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
The President has directed him to assume his new responsibilities at the Allahabad High Court.
Additionally, Justice CD Singh of the Delhi High Court is also being transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
Despite the government’s approval, lawyers in Allahabad High Court have voiced strong opposition to Justice Varma’s transfer.

The decision has stirred controversy among legal professionals, though the transfer has been officially confirmed following the Collegium’s recommendation.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer to Allahabad High Court after receiving a report from Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, DK Upadhyay.
As part of the recommendation, the Collegium also withdrew all judicial work from Justice Varma.
Prior to this move, Justice Varma was the second most senior judge in the Delhi High Court and a member of its Collegium.
However, after his transfer, he will assume the position of the ninth most senior judge at Allahabad High Court.
The transfer follows an investigation into an incident that occurred on the night of March 14, when a raid at Justice Varma’s official residence uncovered a large sum of cash in a storeroom.
This discovery prompted Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna to instruct the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to investigate the matter.
After reviewing the findings, the Collegium proposed Justice Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court.
In light of the cash discovery, CJI Khanna formed a three-member in-house committee to further investigate the matter.
This committee is currently conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident.
Justice Varma’s transfer and the ongoing investigation have raised significant attention, with the legal community awaiting further developments on the case.
