Bombay HC Orders Return Of Rhea Chakraborty’s Passport In Sushant Case

After years of restrictions, Rhea Chakraborty can finally breathe a little easier. The Bombay High Court has allowed the NCB to return her passport, almost five years after it was seized.

After Sushant Singh Rajput’s heartbreaking death in 2020, Rhea Chakraborty was taken into NCB custody in a drug-related case.

She secured bail the next month but had to hand over her passport as part of the conditions.

Since then, the actress has claimed to lose several projects abroad as she couldn’t travel for shoots, auditions, or even meetings.

Rhea recently approached the court again through her lawyer, Ayaz Khan, stressing that the restriction had badly hit her career.

He pointed out that she had followed every single condition of her bail and never once broken a court order. He also argued that the nature of her profession required her to fly out frequently, and the ban had cost her valuable opportunities.

The NCB opposed her request, arguing that being a celebrity should not mean special treatment. They also warned that there was always a chance of the accused fleeing if allowed to travel freely.

Furthermore, Justice Neela Gokhale didn’t agree with the agency.

Legal Hurdle Finally Cleared

The judge noted that other accused in the case had already been granted similar relief. She further underlined that Rhea had cooperated throughout, travelled abroad earlier, and returned without violating any rules.

The court has now given her passport back, though with a fresh set of conditions.

Rhea is instructed to keep the NCB informed of her active phone number, attend all court sessions, and cooperate with the trial.

If she travels abroad, she must notify the prosecution at least four days in advance, share her complete travel plan, including flights and hotels, keep her phone on and inform authorities upon return.

With her passport restored, Rhea can finally look at reviving her stalled international projects. For the actress, this order could be the first real step toward rebuilding her career after years of legal battles.
