IPL Playoffs
In Match 66 of the IPL 2023, played on Friday in Dharamshala, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Punjab Kings by four wickets to maintain their slim playoff hopes. Shimron Hetmyer’s late cameo helped RR reach 189/6 in 19.4 overs while needing to score 188 runs to win. Devdutt Padikkal (51) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (50) also recorded significant half-centuries at this time. Kagiso Rabada secured two wickets for PBKS’ bowling unit.
Punjab initially made a score of 187/5 in 20 overs, with Sam Curran scoring 49 runs off 31 balls for an undefeated inning. For RR, Navdeep Saini was in excellent form and claimed three wickets.
The match between RR and PBKS was also their final league contest. With 14 points after 14 games and a net run rate of +0.148, they are currently ranked fifth in the rankings. Royal Challengers Bangalore must lose to the Gujarat Titans by a significant margin in order for RR to qualify. In the meantime, the Kolkata Knight Riders should narrowly defeat the Lucknow Super Giants, and the Mumbai Indians shouldn’t defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad.
With 15 points after 13 games, the Chennai Super Kings are second in the standings. On Saturday, they will play the Delhi Capitals in their final league contest. CSK will be eligible for the playoffs if they triumph. If LSG cannot easily overcome KKR, CSK will take the Qualifier 1 position. If CSK loses, RCB or MI must also lose their most recent match. Additionally, KKR must overcome LSG by a wide margin. With a victory against KKR in their final league game on Saturday, third-placed LSG would be assured a playoff spot. In order for them to win, RCB or MI must lose their match.
Headed by Faf du Plessis, fourth-placed RCB will play GT in their last league game on Sunday. If they triumph, MI, CSK, or LSG must lose their final game to ensure the playoffs. In order for RCB to maintain their lead over RR in terms of net run rate, they shouldn’t lose by a wide margin if they do. Additionally, MI must lose their game, and KKR shouldn’t easily upset LSG. Additionally, RCB will be eliminated if they lose by more than 11 runs. On the other side, MI, who are currently sixth in the standings, play SRH on Sunday in their last league contest. If they triumph, one of CSK, LSG, or RCB must lose their final game to guarantee playoff participation.

The seventh-placed KKR will play LSG on Saturday, and a win won’t guarantee a playoff spot. They must defeat LSG handily, and if they do, either MI or RCB must suffer significant defeats in their respective games. When they lose, they are out. In the meantime, PBKS, SRH, and DC have already been eliminated from the playoff race.
