As Uttar Pradesh gears up for Maha Kumbh 2025, the preparations are not limited to Prayagraj alone. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed extensive development at other prominent religious locations across the state, including Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Chitrakoot, to accommodate the expected influx of millions of devotees and tourists.
Focus on Infrastructure Development
The state government is making significant efforts to enhance facilities for an estimated 40 crore devotees who are expected to participate in the Maha Kumbh. Infrastructure improvements are being carried out at critical religious sites, with a focus on transportation, accommodation, sanitation, clean drinking water, medical services, and security. These efforts aim to provide a seamless and comfortable experience for the vast number of pilgrims attending the event.

Special attention is being given to some of the most revered sites in Uttar Pradesh. In Ayodhya, the Ram Temple complex will see upgraded amenities. While in Varanasi, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor will be revamped to accommodate more visitors. Meanwhile, the Kamadgiri Parikrama route in Chitrakoot is set to receive modern facilities, ensuring smooth pilgrimages through this sacred site.
To fund these extensive preparations, the Urban Development Department has proposed a budget of Rs 65 crore. This includes Rs 12.41 crore for Ayodhya, Rs 5.25 crore for Ayodhya UPSTDC, Rs 10.87 crore for Mirzapur, Rs 4.85 crore for Chitrakoot, Rs 1.38 crore for Bhadohi, and Rs 28.68 crore for Lucknow. These funds will be used for various initiatives, such as setting up temporary accommodations like tent cities.
The development plan includes a range of amenities designed to enhance the experience of pilgrims. Clean drinking water will be made available, while temporary and mobile toilets will be set up in high-traffic areas. Sanitation services, including the provision of manpower, will ensure cleanliness throughout the sites. Lighting arrangements will feature decorative electrical setups, and mobile generators will be deployed to ensure continuous power supply. In addition, bonfires and heaters will be provided to protect visitors from the cold weather.
A special committee will oversee the planning and implementation of these arrangements. Headed by the concerned Divisional Commissioner, the committee will further involve District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners, and other relevant authorities. It will be responsible for evaluating the feasibility and cost of the proposed projects. UPSTDC has been designated as the executing agency for the arrangements related to temporary housing and kitchens.
Once the proposals are prepared and reviewed, they will be submitted to the top committee for approval. Upon approval, funds will be allocated from the Maha Kumbh budget to ensure timely completion of all necessary projects.
The Yogi government’s preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025 are poised to transform Uttar Pradesh’s sacred cities into well-equipped hubs for devotees, with modern facilities, enhanced security, and a smooth infrastructure network. As the event approaches, these extensive measures will further ensure that millions of pilgrims can participate in this grand religious occasion with ease and comfort.
