Yogi Government Ramps Up Key Projects; Set To Open New Ganga Riverfront Ahead Of Maha Kumbh 2025

A newly developed riverfront along the Ganga River is nearing completion as Maha Kumbh 2025 approaches, promising a smooth route for devotees and tourists. With 70% of construction finished, the route is likely to open for traffic by 15 November. In preparation for the massive influx expected in Prayagraj, the Yogi Adityanath government is expediting key projects to enhance the visitor experience.

Mumbai-Inspired Riverfront To Boost Tourism

Inspired by Mumbai’s Marine Drive, the 15.25-km riverfront stretches from Dashashwamedh Ghat to Phaphamau.

Built with an investment of Rs 213 crores, this pathway aims to ease congestion, create jobs, and enhance the visitor experience with scenic views, selfie spots, and dining options.

Vivek Chaturvedi, Additional Kumbh Mela Officer stated, “The new riverfront will create an enjoyable path for tourists and devotees alike, making travel to Sangam convenient and opening up more of Prayagraj for exploration.”

“We’re developing this as a robust model pathway with a unique design tailored to withstand high visitor traffic,” he further added.

Enhanced Infrastructure To Support Maha Kumbh

As the city anticipates over 40 crore visitors for Maha Kumbh 2025, Prayagraj’s infrastructure upgrades extend beyond the riverfront.

Multiple road-widening projects and alternative transportation routes along the Ganga are in progress to ease movement for the anticipated crowds.

Additionally, senior Engineer Ramesh Kumar Singh from the Irrigation Department further explained that the new riverfront is specifically engineered for the Maha Kumbh, incorporating interlocking surfaces, boulder crate construction, and slope pitching along the edges for stability. The design includes benches, scenic viewpoints, and selfie points to enhance the experience for tourists.

Construction spans various city points, including Rasulabad Ghat to Nagvasuki Temple, Surdas to Chhatnag, and up to Mahavir Puri near Curzon Bridge.

This extension will allow devotees easy access not only to Sangam but also to the vibrant surroundings of Prayagraj, enhancing the spiritual and cultural journey.

Opening Soon: Increased Accessibility & Employment Opportunities

With the riverfront anticipated to open by mid-November, authorities are optimistic about the impact on traffic and visitor experience for Maha Kumbh.

Alongside improved accessibility, the project is likely to create numerous job opportunities, providing a boost to the local economy and supporting Prayagraj’s burgeoning status as a prominent religious and cultural destination.

As the Maha Kumbh approaches, these developments however reflect the government’s commitment to creating a well-organized, enriching, and memorable pilgrimage experience for millions of visitors from around the world.
