On Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his congratulations to Mata Prasad Pandey, the newly appointed Leader of Opposition (LoP).
However, his speech also contained a pointed remark aimed at Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav, commonly known as Chacha.
“I congratulate you on becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the House,” Adityanath began, addressing Pandey.
He then added, “Ek alag vishay hai ki aapne Chacha ko gaccha de hi diya. Chacha bechara hamesha hi aise maar khata hai. Unki niyati hi aisi hai (The uncle always gets beaten up like this. Such is his fate). Kyuki bhatija hamesha bhaybheet rehta hai (because the nephew is always scared), taking a subtle dig at the internal dynamics of the Samajwadi Party.
Shivpal Yadav, the brother of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, has had a tumultuous relationship with his nephew, particularly following Mulayam Singh’s demise.
The struggle for control within the party made headlines, ultimately leading to Shivpal forming his own political faction after Akhilesh consolidated his leadership.
The session was also notable for the presentation of a supplementary budget by the Yogi Adityanath-led government.
The proposed budget, amounting to approximately Rs 30,000 crore, was discussed on the second day of the Monsoon session.
Prior to the Assembly session, the UP cabinet met at the Chief Minister’s residence, where the budget was approved.
The meeting saw the attendance of Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
