Women’s Power Confluence: Women In Art, Today And Tomorrow

In Delhi University’s Indoor Stadium, an event titled “Women’s Power Confluence: Women in Art, Today and Tomorrow” was organized. In the inaugural session of this event, Dr. Krishna Gopal, Co-Secretary-General of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), addressed the audience. He mentioned that in Vedic times, the Upanishad era, the times of the Ramayana-Mahabharata, and during the Buddhist period, women always held prominent positions ahead of men. However, during the medieval period, due to foreign influences and invasions, restrictions were imposed on women. Speakers emphasized the need to revive the place given to women in Indian philosophy.

This discussion event, titled “Women – Art Today and Tomorrow,” organized by the Jhandewalan Department, was held in two sessions. The theme of the first inaugural session was “Women in Indian Thought,” where Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh (Member of Parliament and a renowned dancer) was the chief guest. She stressed that the energy of women is what has created the universe and called for attention to be paid not only to “Educate the Daughter, Save the Daughter” but also to “Empower the Daughter.” She highlighted that the caste system has created divisions, while in reality, strength comes from the unity of both men and women.

Following the first session, a discussion session took place on the topic “Current Status of Women, Issues, and Actionable Steps.” The concluding session focused on “The Role of Women in India’s Development,” with the main speaker being Monica Arora, Advocate of the Supreme Court, who emphasized the significance of women in Indian culture. She noted that Indian culture’s envoys are women and that the story of the prominent role of women in Indian philosophy must be shared with the world. This session’s chief guest, Professor Anu Singh Lather (Vice-Chancellor, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University), highlighted the difference between Women Power and Women Empowerment, stating that women already possess energy; they just need opportunities.

The event saw the participation of women from various departments of Women’s Coordination, including Pratima Lakda and Dr. Sangeeta Tyagi, showcasing their involvement in Women Empowerment.
