WISE 4.0: Mahipal Dhanda Highlights Women’s Entrepreneurship, Self-Reliance And Rural Growth

A two-day international summit, WISE 4.0, is being held in Chandigarh to promote women’s entrepreneurship, rural innovation and the MSME sector.

Organised by the Delhi chapter of the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE), the summit brings together women entrepreneurs, rural innovators and small business owners from India and abroad to discuss access to global markets and modern technology.

Haryana Cabinet Minister Mahipal Dhanda attended the summit as the special guest, while Rajya Sabha MP and former National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma joined as the guest of honour.

Discussions at the event focused on women’s entrepreneurship, self-reliance and the economic empowerment of women in rural areas.

Addressing the summit, Mahipal Dhanda said women remain central to families and play an important role in society. From managing households and supporting children’s education to working in agriculture and running businesses, women are contributing across sectors.

The Minister further said women have demonstrated that they can compete effectively and are moving ahead in several fields.

Mahipal Dhanda spoke about initiatives undertaken for women’s self-help groups during his tenure as a Minister.

The initiative identified around 1,000 self-help groups at one stage and provided their members with fairs and markets to display and sell their products.

Around 650 women from self-help groups attended one such programme.

Following this, districts received instructions to provide these women with counters at locations of their choice in cities. This, however, enabled them to sell their products without obstruction.

More than 200 women’s groups subsequently set up counters across districts including Hisar, Panipat, Ambala and Faridabad.

Mahipal Dhanda said such initiatives aim to help women become financially independent and connect their products with larger markets.

WISE 4.0 is focusing on connecting women entrepreneurs from rural areas and smaller cities with technology, markets and new opportunities.

The summit is discussing ways to take locally produced goods to national and international markets.
