In order to develop a mechanism for cooperation among the alliance partners to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, leaders of at least 26 opposition parties that are part of the India coalition met on Thursday in Mumbai.
At the “informal” meeting held at the Grand Hyatt hotel in this city, all of the leading opposition figures were there, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, and Arvind Kejriwal. At the official summit on Friday, significant choices will be made on the alliance’s future strategy. Following the conference, Thackeray held a supper for the Indian leaders.
The opposition alliance is now convening for the third time. The bloc’s first meeting took place in Patna in June, and during its second meeting in Bengaluru in July, its name, Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), was decided.
On Friday, more leaders from India will gather. The India coalition parties will have a press conference on Friday, according to Uddhav Thackeray.
The names of the India convenor and committees will be decided upon at the Friday huddle, according to CNN-News18 sources. The reasons why the government scheduled a five-day extraordinary session of Parliament were discussed by the opposition leaders. They discussed whether the government intended to combine the
Lok Sabha and state assembly elections and whether the alliance needed to be ready for it.
The parties also decided whether or not they should hold joint rallies and whether certain seats were to be reserved for them. The Samajwadi Party reviewed the use of federal agencies at the conference and emphasized the significance of Uttar Pradesh in the elections. Tomorrow, the names of the convenor and committees will be finalized, according to sources.
The leaders talked about the necessity of conducting regional surveys. They stated that the first topic of conversation (in the meeting on Friday) would be seat distribution by region. According to sources, discussions over Lok Sabha seat distribution should take place locally, taking into account local combinations and strengths.
