West Bengal Minister Chandranath Sinha Questioned By ED Amidst Ongoing Recruitment Probe

Chandranath Sinha, a prominent Trinamool Congress leader and the newly appointed Minister of State for Correctional Services in West Bengal, arrived at the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on Wednesday.

His visit follows a summons related to the agency’s investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for primary school teachers in the state.

The recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital has already charged the political landscape in West Bengal with tension.

The latest development has intensified scrutiny in the state’s political circles.

The ED’s investigation into Sinha’s activities began after the agency discovered his name in the diary of Kuntal Ghosh, a now-suspended youth leader of the Trinamool Congress, previously arrested by the ED.

Earlier this year, in March, ED officials conducted a raid at Sinha’s residence in Bolpur, Birbhum district, where they reportedly seized Rs 41 lakh in cash and a mobile phone.

Sinha, who also oversees the micro, small, and medium enterprises and textiles departments, maintains a close association with Anubrata Mondal, a key Trinamool Congress figure.

Mondal is currently detained in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, in connection with a high-profile cattle smuggling case in West Bengal.

The recent summons issued to Sinha comes in light of new evidence that has emerged in the ongoing investigation, necessitating further interrogation.

As of now, the Trinamool Congress has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
