West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose arrived in Delhi on Tuesday, set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and present a report on the recent rape-murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
The Governor’s report is likely to further criticize the state government’s handling of the case, potentially intensifying tensions between the administration and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Observers suggest that the Governor’s critique could embarrass the state government, especially given his previous comments on the matter following meetings with protesting medical students and junior doctors at RG Kar.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has expressed concern that the Governor’s report might be a move by the Union government to undermine the state’s elected government.
In recent days, state BJP leaders have called for increased central intervention amid ongoing statewide protests and allegations of a flawed investigation.
On 15 August, Governor Bose visited RG Kar Hospital, expressing strong condemnation of the incident and pledging support for justice.
He described the incident at RG Kar as a stain on humanity and declared his intolerance for such acts. He further emphasized the necessity of taking proper action against the perpetrators and highlighted the importance of addressing the demands of the protesting medical community.
The case has sparked widespread protests across West Bengal and a nationwide doctors’ strike, fueled by accusations of mishandling and cover-ups in the investigation.
