West Bengal Government Plans ‘Janatar Darbar’ For Direct Public Grievances

The newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in West Bengal has decided to introduce ‘Janatar Darbar’ sessions to strengthen direct communication between the administration and the public.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will personally attend the programme twice every week for two hours to hear grievances raised by citizens.

Sources from the state secretariat, Nabanna, revealed that the Chief Minister’s Office has already approved the proposal in principle, although authorities have not yet issued a formal notification regarding the initiative.

Senior bureaucrats are currently preparing the administrative framework and operational details required for the programme’s launch.

According to officials, the state administration believes every government receives complaints regarding governance and public services, irrespective of the ruling political party.

The Chief Minister reportedly wants direct access to public concerns instead of relying solely on official departmental reports.

Officials stated that selected senior bureaucrats will accompany the Chief Minister during the sessions to ensure quicker administrative coordination and grievance redressal.

The government is likely to release the official notification later this month, while the programme may commence from next month.

Sources further explained that security restrictions often prevent ordinary citizens from directly approaching the Chief Minister.

Additionally, letters addressed to the Chief Minister do not always reach him personally.

The proposed ‘Janatar Darbar’ aims to bridge this communication gap and provide citizens with a structured platform to present their concerns directly before the state leadership.
