Weather Update: Rain, Hailstorm Expected To Lash In Parts Of North India

Over the next few days, rain is likely to fall in various states and cities across India. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rain with thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected over northwest India beginning on March 23 in the evening and continuing through March 24, as well as over central and east India from March 25 through March 27.

In the lower and middle troposphere, a western disturbance is characterized by cyclonic circulation over Iran and its surrounding areas. Over the next two days, it is likely to move towards north India. Lower tropospheric levels have a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and its surrounding areas.

Rainfall and thunderstorm are likely to start over northwest India from March 24. Today, isolated hailstorms are expected over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan. On March 25, hailstorms are also anticipated over Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, in central India, dry weather is likely to be seen over the region during the next two days. Thereafter, a fresh spell of rainfall, thunderstorm, and hailstorm activity is likely to commence over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh on March 25 and 26.

Widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is likely to continue over northeast India during the next five days.

Weather Forecast

Across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, moderately widespread rainfall with thunderstorms is anticipated.

Thunderstorms and sporadic precipitation, including snow, may affect Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and others may see sporadic rains and thunderstorms.

West Rajasthan, Karaikal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Yanam, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Thunderstorms and isolated showers or snowfall are possible over Uttarakhand.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala, and Mahe may see isolated showers and thunderstorms.
