Today’s Weather Update: Flights Delay In Delhi’s IGI Airport; Fresh Snowfall Seen In Himachal Pradesh

Today’s Weather Update: Due to low visibility in the national capital, some flights are running late today, news agency ANI reported. In Himachal Pradesh, the Narkanda area of Shimla district continues to receive snowfall.

Scattered thunderstorms may occur over southern Jammu.

Dense fog in isolated pockets is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Cold day conditions are forecast over isolated pockets of Bihar.

Fog is also possible over coastal areas of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and around Chennai.

Hazardous air quality is possible across the subcontinent, especially over North India.

In a report by the IMD, “Due to continuation of prevailing light winds and high moisture near surface over Indo-Gangetic plains, dense to very dense fog very likely to continue in isolated/some parts during night & morning hours over Bihar during 13th-17th.”

Moreover, the weather agency added, “A fresh spell of dense to very dense fog very likely in isolated/some pockets during night & morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during 14th to 17th.”

Flights Delay In Delhi’s IGI Airport

As many as six flights, scheduled to depart from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), were delayed due to dense fog, informed airport authority.

Among the flight routes affected by the severe fog were Delhi-San Francisco/Kathmandu, Delhi-Chandigarh-Kullu, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Dharamshala-Chandigarh, Delhi-Shimla- Dharamshala, Delhi-Dehradun. Already reeling under a cold wave since the beginning of the New Year, residents in the national capital on Friday woke to a chilly morning with a thick layer of fog.

Delhi’s AQI Reaches 329: Hazardous

AQI (Air Quality Index) reached to 329, slipping into “hazardous” category of air quality index in Delhi.

As per the order issued on Monday, “As per directions as provided under Stage III of the revised GRAP and under Section 115 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is hereby ordered that there shall be restrictions to ply BS-III, Petrol and BS-IV, Diesel LMVs (4-wheelers) in NCT of Delhi, with immediate effect, till dated 12.01.2023 or till downward revision in GRAP stage, whichever is earlier (except for vehicles deployed in emergency services, police vehicles & govt. Vehicles used for enforcement).”

A senior Transport department official said  that the ban would be in place till Friday.
