Weather Today: North India still experiences extreme temperature dip; AQI remains in ‘very poor’ category

Weather Today: Several parts of India like the national capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been experiencing the hit of an extreme cold wave for the last few days with temperatures in the states dipping to single digits, said the IMD.

Scattered snow or rain is expected over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Isolated snowfall or rainfall is forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Isolated rains may occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Dense fog is possible in isolated areas over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura early in the morning.

Air quality is likely to be very poor in Northern, Central and Eastern India and poor in Northeastern and Southern India.

IMD On Cold Wave

In a weather report, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a fresh intense western disturbance will affect the western Himalayan region from January 20 night to January 26 and the plains of northwest India from January 23 to 25.

While predicting the temperatures of the northern states, IMD said a rise in minimum temperatures by 3-5 degree Celsius very in many parts of northwest India on January 19 and 20 and no significant change thereafter for the subsequent three days.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over Madhya Pradesh till January 19 morning, adding that temperatures may rise by 3-5 degree Celsius thereafter, IMD said in the weather prediction.

The weather agency further predicted that “cold wave to severe cold wave” conditions will continue in isolated pockets over north Rajasthan and “cold wave” conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and north Madhya Pradesh on January 19 and abate thereafter.

Also, dense fog is likely to engulf Himachal Pradesh on January 19; sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar till January 20; Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya and Tripura till January 21.

Trains Delayed Due To Heavy Fog

Several passengers suffered train delays. While taking Twitter, news agency ANI informed the delay of the train status. ANI wrote, “13 trains running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog: Indian Railways”
