We Are Leaving No Stone Unturned To Empower Women Of Bihar, Says PM Modi Ahead Of Jeevika Initiative Launch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the government is committed to creating opportunities for women in Bihar, as he prepares to inaugurate the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited later in the day via video conferencing.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the mothers, sisters, and daughters of our Bihar do not lack any opportunities. In this regard, today around 12:30 PM, I will inaugurate a major initiative for rural women entrepreneurs through video conferencing.”

As part of the launch, the Prime Minister will transfer Rs 105 crore directly into the cooperative’s account, providing it with a strong financial foundation.

The new body, however, aims to provide affordable and accessible financial services to women associated with Jeevika, Bihar’s flagship rural livelihoods scheme.

Membership will, however, include all registered Cluster-Level Federations under Jeevika, with funding provided jointly by the Government of Bihar and the Central Government.

Empowering Women Through Jeevika Nidhi

Over the years, Jeevika’s self-help groups have enabled thousands of women to become rural entrepreneurs, starting small businesses and production units across the state.

However, many continued to rely on microfinance institutions charging interest rates of 18 to 24 per cent.

The Jeevika Nidhi aims to change this by offering larger loans at lower rates, reducing dependence on costly borrowing.

The cooperative will run entirely on a digital platform to ensure quick and transparent transactions.

Around 12,000 community cadres, trained and equipped with tablets to help Jeevika women, or ‘Didis’, access financial services with ease.

The initiative will likely strengthen financial inclusion, support women’s entrepreneurship and promote community-led economic growth.

Nearly 20 lakh women across Bihar are likely to watch the inauguration live, highlighting the scale of its reach.

The Jeevika Nidhi Federation marks a milestone in building an inclusive and self-reliant rural economy in Bihar, anchored in women’s empowerment and cooperative strength.
