WATCH: Bengaluru Woman Jumps Off Rapido To Escape Sexual Harassment

In metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru, people usually commute by taxi, Uber, and Ola and nowadays there has been a great option for taking Bike taxi services.  However, do you think these cab services are safe to travel, especially for women passengers? Most of the time, it is but today, we will be sharing one of the incidents that might change your opinion of picking up taxis in future. A recent horrifying incident involving a Rapido bike taxi has emerged from Bengaluru. A video of a 30-year-old woman has surfaced all over the internet, who jump off a moving Rapido bike in order to save herself from being harassed by the driver.

According to the victim, the driver sexually molested her and tried to take her to the wrong destination.

What actually happened?

This incident took place on April 21, a woman booked a Rapido to Indiranagar. Consequently, a Rapido bike driver arrived to pick up the woman at around 11:10 PM. The driver then took her phone on the pretext of checking the OTP (one-time password) for starting the ride and changed the drop location from Indiranagar to Doddaballapura.

When the woman suspected that the rider was travelling in the wrong direction, she asked him about it. However, the accused remained silent and continued speeding up the bike. That’s not it, when she snatched her phone from the rider, he snatched it right back and increased the speed of the bike. Furthermore, the rider also groped her. The woman eventually jumped off the speeding bike near the BMS Institute of Technology and Management (BMSIT) and sustained injuries. The driver sped away with her phone.

After she jumped off the bike, passersby helped the woman call her friend in her hometown and another friend in Indiranagar.

The entire shocking incident was captured on CCTV. News agency ANI has posted a video clip of the incident on Twitter. Many Twitter users are shocked by the disturbing incident, which happened in the limits of Yelahanka New Town police station.

The accused was later identified as 27-year-old, Deepak Rao. hailing from Andhra Pradesh. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. He has been booked for sexual harassment, kidnapping and assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
